Build your thriving Roman colony in the heart of the Mediterranean, engage in trade with the bustling Great Harbor of Carthage, craft mighty trading ships to navigate the Mediterranean, and defend your waters from the notorious Cilician pirates in this exciting dice drafting and worker placement game for 2-4 players. In *The Great Harbor*, you take on the role of a powerful Roman governor, overseeing the growth of your Mediterranean colony. The game unfolds over multiple rounds, where players draft dice from a shared pool and use these dice as workers, placing them on tiles of the Great Harbor to perform various actions. Each tile is associated with a color, and in order to place a die on a particular slot, the die must match the tile’s color. The value of the die (ranging from 1 to 6) determines the strength of the action, with higher values providing more powerful results. Once a die is placed on a slot, it is locked for the round, requiring players to carefully plan their moves. Players will engage in a variety of actions, including gathering vital resources for shipbuilding, scheduling workers to construct ships, expanding their colony’s capacity to accommodate more ships and population, sending vessels on trade missions across the Mediterranean, and staying vigilant for pirate threats. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to hire skilled workers and diplomats to bolster your operations and enhance your strategy. After six rounds, the game concludes, and players tally their victory points from the ships they’ve built, the structures they’ve constructed, their influence in the Senate, and any completed objectives. The player with the most points is crowned the most powerful governor of the Mediterranean, having successfully navigated the challenges of trade, diplomacy, and conquest.
